Frequently Asked Questions

Memoria is a public character index for Final Fantasy XIV. This page covers what Memoria records and how to remove or control your character. If you just want out, start with the first question.

Your control

How do I remove my character from Memoria?

Submit a takedown request at the takedown page. No account or Discord login needed. Just your character's world, name, and a short reason why. We review every request by hand, and approved removals are applied within about 7 days. Once a takedown is approved, the character is hidden from everyone: it drops out of search and the recent feed, and its profile link stops working. Approved removals are permanent and can't be reversed, including by anyone who later tries to claim that character.

Do I need a Discord or an account to be removed?

No. The takedown form is completely anonymous. You never sign in, connect Discord, or install anything.

How do I claim my character and control what's shown?

If you'd rather manage your character than remove it, you can claim it. Sign in with Discord, open Your Characters, and add your character by home world and name. You'll get a short code. Paste it anywhere in your Lodestone character bio, save, and click Verify. The code is good for 24 hours. Once verified, you control the privacy settings below and can remove the code from your bio.

What can I hide once I've claimed my character?

Three settings, changeable at any time:

  • Hide entirelyremoves the character from everyone but you. The profile returns "not found," and it is gone from search and the recent feed.
  • Hide from searchkeeps the profile reachable by direct link, but removes it from the search box and the front-page feed.
  • Hide encountershides your zone and location history from other signed-in members. Anonymous visitors never see location history anyway.

What's collected and why

What does Memoria record about my character?

Only things that are visible in the game world or already public on the Lodestone:

  • Your name and your home and current world
  • Your appearance, and your current glamour including dye colors
  • Your active job and its level
  • Your title, Free Company tag, and Grand Company
  • Whatever mount, minion, or fashion accessory you have out at the time
  • The zones you have been seen in
  • From your public Lodestone page: all of your job levels, your mount and minion collections, and your portrait

Memoria also keeps a history of changes (name changes, world transfers, appearance and glamour changes).

Where does the data come from?

Two places. The in-game plugin records public details about players it sees near you as you play. Separately, our server looks up each character's public Lodestone page (the official profile Square Enix publishes on the web) to fill in job levels, collections, and portraits. Everything on Lodestone is already public to anyone on the internet.

What does Memoria NOT collect?

Memoria never touches your communication or anything the game keeps private. It doesn't read chat, tells, party chat, Free Company chat, or linkshells. It doesn't record who you target or who targets you. It also doesn't know or store your account or subscription. Account-level tracking was removed completely, along with the ability to link characters to one account (see below).

What people worry about

Can Memoria tell where I am right now?

No. Memoria has no live tracking and no "where is this player now" feature. A profile shows the zone a character was last seen in, from a scan that could be hours or days old. One thing to be clear about: when the plugin records a player, it also notes the approximate spot on the zone map at that moment. The website never shows this. Profiles show only which zones, how many times, and when. The position is kept with the most recent sighting in each zone; it never appears on the site and there's no live view of anyone. But because the plugin shares data between everyone running it, someone with the plugin could look up that last recorded position through it.

Can Memoria link my alternate characters?

No. Memoria used to read an account-level identifier that could group a person's characters together. That was removed completely. The plugin no longer reads it and nothing stores or sends it anymore. Alt-linking is gone from every part of Memoria: the website, Discord bot, in-game window, and the data other plugin users can pull. Two characters are never shown as belonging to the same person.

Who can see my profile?

Anyone, signed in or not, can see a character's appearance, jobs, glamour, and mount and minion collections. Members of the Memoria Discord can also see location history and name, world, and Free Company history. If you have claimed your character, you decide how much of that is visible using the settings above.

Practical

How is the data collected, and how do I contribute?

Memoria's index is built entirely by its free in-game plugin. Every player you walk past gets recorded, for you and for everyone searching. See the install guide to set it up.

Is Memoria affiliated with Square Enix?

No. Memoria is a community fan project and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Square Enix. Do not use it to harass or stalk anyone; accounts that do are banned from contributing and from the Discord.
